The role of larger foraminifera in recent advances of Paleogene stratigraphy: The Ypresian /Lutetian boundary
After many years searching for a suitable section to define the Ypresian/Lutetian boundary Stratotype, the Gorrondate section was analysed and the Lutetian GSSP was defined in this very expanded and continuous section. based on calcareous nannofossils, planktonic foraminifera, small benthic foraminiferadinocysts, ostracods, magnetostratigraphy, sequence stratigraphy and cyclostratigraphy, the Lutetian GSSP is located at meter 167.85 of the section in a dark marly level where the nannofossil Blackites inflatus first appears, approximately 48 Ma ago.
