In-Depth Analysis of Seismic Algorithm for Surface Multiple Attenuation
Solving surface multiple attenuation problem is a crucial step in processing of marine seismic data. The reflections from the water-air surface are so pronounced that they mask a proper visualization and analysis of important reflections coming from geological layers. The algorithm for removing multiples from a single cable data set is based on processing in f-x domain where for each frequency plane of a data cube a large matrix has to be inverted repetitively in order to optimize the acquisition wavelet using energy minimization in primary wavefield. The matrix inversion in every iteration make the whole procedure prohibitively expensive. The new version of the algorithm based on eigenvalue decomposition and circularity of trace for a product of matrices has been developed and analyzed in depth to illustrate its efficiency.
