Duplikacija kromosoma kao posljedica pop-out rekombinacije
As yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae is of considerable importance in industry, and in science, it is often chosen as the subject of experiments. Today there is a substantial number of research on evolution-related processes shaping the genome of this eukaryote. Although many facts are now revealed, much is still unknown, such as molecular mechanisms of these processes. Therefore, the aim of this paper was to investigate the possibility of an illegitimate integration of an endogenous DNA formed during a pop-out recombination event between two repeated sequences, in accordance with the SSA model (single strand annealing model). As we were unable to detect this kind of event, we can conclude that its rate is less than 10-8. Our results also indicate that pop-out recombination can initiate chromosome duplication, which is significant from evolutionary viewpoint. Also, the experimental system developed for this research can be utilized in the construction of disomic yeast strains.
