Establishing Online Dialogue in Teaching Statistics

The web page of the course Statistics www.efos-Statistics.com (as an addition to the existing CARNet web pages of the professors from the Faculty of Economics in Osijek) has been experimentally created and based on the Bologna process requirements with the goal to develop a model of the teaching process which would be supplemented by the Online dialogue. It has been estimated that in order to develop generic skills, the students need a special motivation which was expected to be reached by the development of a students' documentary tool (a publicly accessible document containing daily updated reports of students’ success). Apart from the data in the documentary tool, the numerous site visits are also the result of the Forum and the credibility of the posted teaching materials, as well as all the information about the course (exam dates, all monthly, weekly and daily assignments). In other words, instead of having two web pages of two teachers, all the important information for the course Statistics was published on only one web space, organised according to the course, and not according to the teacher. The teachers use this newly created web page as a joint web space with teaching materials and new communication tools (Documentary tool/Forum). The website visits analysis has shown that precisely the documentary tool and the Forum were the most visited notifications that have contributed to remedy the ambiguities in the teaching process communication channel and to the growth in the student motivation for the Statistics class participation.
