Resilience mechanisms: How to assess them with at - risk children and youth

It is generally known that resilience is complex issue and that the assessment of its mechanisms is not easy and straightforward. At the same time, literature focusing on intervention for at-risk children and youth is pointing on the concept of resilience as the alternative framework for interventions. Consistent to that research named “Matching interventions with the needs of children and youth at-risk: creating a model” is focused on finding out scientifically based and, at the same time, user’s friendly assessment instruments and approaches. Several instruments for risk, strength and intervention needs assessment were applied with different groups of at-risk children ad youth. Main goal of this poster presentation is to describe relations between personal strength domains and perceived adequacy of intervention. To achieve that results gained by applying Croatian version of Youth Level of Services/Case Management Inventory (Hoge, Andrews and Leschied, 2002) with the sample of 351 at-risk boys placed in several residential treatment and correction institutions will be presented. To find out relations between child/youth strength domains, level of risk and perceived intervention adequacy and effectiveness queasy-canonical corelational analysis will be applied. To gain more in-depth understanding of person-based variables associated with strenght and responsivenees to intervention qualitative approach will be included.
