IMPACT OF FLOWERING DYNAMICS ON PERFORMANCE OF CLONAL CANDIDATES cv. Škrlet bijeli
Old and long grown cultivars of grapevine have during time accumulated mutations inside their genome. Consequently despite the vegetative propagation genetic variability can be found in their populations. Škrlet bijeli is autochtonous grapevine cultivar and is currently undergoing the process of clonal selection. One of the major problems with Škrlet bijeli is its predisposition to flower abcission. Previous studies have shown that flower abscission is greatly influenced with environment and management practises in the vineyard but also can have an genetic backround. The aim of this work was to find if there are some differences between potential clones of Škrlet in their tendency to coulure. During the year 2006 clonal candidates of Škrlet were grown in two vineyards, Popovača (rootstock Kober 5BB) and Repušnica (SO4) and they were evaluated on the dynamics of flowering in the selected bunches per vine, the rate of berry growth during development phase and standard agronomic traits in the harvest (yield in kg/vine, sugar content in ˚Oe, total acidity expressed as tartaric acid in g/L and pH) and bunch characteristics (width in mm, lenght in mm, mass in g and berry number). Results of this study indicate existance of genetic variability between clonal candidates considering flowering time and agronomic performance. Negative effect on flower abcission of cultivar Škrlet was caused by environmental conditions, too.
