Water-in-oil emulsion as a method to remove NOx from diesel engine exhaust gas
Nitrogen oxide emitted from diesel engines is listed as one of the causative substances wich cause the extensive environmental pollution such as the acid rain as well as the formation of harmful ground-level ozone and photochemical smog. Existing International Maritime Organization (IMO) MARPOL 73/78 Annex VI agreement prescribes NOx emission limits for the international shipping indistry. Manufactures of marine diesel engines responded on those demands by improving of engine operations and by introducing of new technologies. Methods of reducing NOx in exhaust gases are: - pretreatment or conditioning of the fuel and/or the combustion air - engine tuning or operational mode hardware design such as modifications and enhancements to the combustion chamber components, fuel system components, engine control system, etc - conditioning the exhaust gas the combustion process This paper describes method to reduce nitorgen oxides from exhaust gas of the slow speed marine disel propulsion engine B6W-5L90MC using Oil-in-Water exemplification.
