Red Beet Iron and Manganese Content at Harvest and after Storage as Influenced by Different Fertilization
A field fertilization trial with red beet (Beta vulgaris var. conditiva) was carried out in 2003 in northwestern Croatia. The trial was set up according to the Latin square method with four fertilization treatments (unfertilized control, 5 kg m-2 stable manure, and 50 and 100 g m-2 NPK 5-20-30). The samples were analyzed at harvest and after storage time. Red beet Fe and Mn content at harvest time ranged from 1.57 to 2.29 mg Fe 100 g-1 and from 0.51 to 0.69 mg Mn 100 g-1 fresh weight, respectively. Fe and Mn content determined after storage was about 50 % higher and ranged from 2.54 to 2.99 mg Fe 100 g-1 fresh weight and from 0.89 to 1.01 mg Mn 100 g-1 fresh weight, respectively.
