Crime Pays Off: Conventions of the Crime Genre and Crime Against It.
The paper investigates the crime (detective) novel genre and lists its changeable and unchangeable characteristics. The Swiss author Friedrich Durrenmatt betrayed many of the conventions of the genre and broke its fixed scheme. The paper tries to question if the novel still belongs to the trivial literature, or if it comes one step closer to the elite literature.
