Production of circular knitted fabrics for the renovation of old stone buildings

The paper describes problems about the stability of older stone buildings as well as renovation methods. One of the methods is the injection of concrete into free chambers in the walls. Concrete is injected into smaller closed spaces in the wall or into integrated chambers. Tubular multiply plated knitted fabrics that are built into empty spaces in the wall together with steel bars are produced for such purposes. Afterwards, concrete or fixation mix is injected. Tubular knitted fabrics need to have an optimal tight structure in elongated form in order to keep injected concrete until it solidifies. Injected mixture should lose its moisture progressively and should not ruin the tubular membrane that holds the mixture. Different combinations of polyester and polyamide filament yarns as well as cotton yarns are used to make knitted fabrics. Knitted fabric samples are produced on a small diameter circular knitting machine. Breaking force and elongation of such fabrics depend on the purpose and position of the membrane in the wall. Changes of yarn parameters, knitted fabric, sinking depth and fabric finishing affect the mechanical properties of the circular knitted fabric. Fabrics of 50-200 mm in diameter and a length of 0.5-3 m are used for the intended purpose.
