Students' Panel: Digital Natives: Who are they and who can educate them?

This panel is based on a fundamental review of the literature on digital natives and a survey that was conducted on high school students in Osijek and Beli Manastir (gymnasium Osijek, gymnasium Beli Manastir, private high school Gaudeamus and Electronics school in Osijek). Our gold is to fetch all future possible students. The survey has two purposes. 1. determine who are the digital natives ; 2. Are the current professors capable of high-quality digital native education? The survey will be conducted on professors to determine their ability to provide quality education to the "digital natives" and on the students in order to estimate how much more time teachers have to improve their skills which is requested from digital natives. This paper will determine the exact year (or period) in which the children in the area of Osijek became digital natives. Based on the obtained year (period), we can predict their start of education and of course joining the academic community. Research questions that we will try to give the answer: 1. Approximately, which generation in the Osijek area is a digital native? Technology did not come to all parts of the world at the same time, nor could all households afford a computer at the same time and research data will be specific to our local area. 2. Did professors become digital immigrants? Concerning they have access to technology for quite some time, the question is what are their levels of knowledge which is requested from digital natives. From that point on stem all other problems that can be encountered in education. Education laws guarantee each student a quality education that would later be perfected through life. This question also raised discussion about how ethical is it for such children to be taught by teachers who are not informatically and informationally literate, and how does it actually affect the quality of education achieved by these children. For their presentation panelist use this questions: 1. How would you define term "digital"? What technologies identifies the term "digital" (Amiga, Atari, Commodore, PC, analog modem, mobile devices, etc.)? 2. What is the year that you consider, in your surroundings, to be the year of birth of digital natives? 3. Give us your opinion, is it going to be the difference between digital immigrants and digital natives in 10 years from now? 4. How would you evaluate your dealing with ICT? 5. By your opinion, how much are professors using ICT today?
