RESEARCH ON IMPROVEMENT OF AIRPLANE ACCIDENT PLACE SEARCH MISSION USING SYNTHETIC APERTURE RADAR - GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS

The operations of precise localisation of place and area of airplane and/or other accidents are carried out through Search & Rescue (SAR) mission, officially recommended by ICAO. Searching is expensive, risky and complex aspect of the SAR system with permanently present imperative task – to perform it in shortest possible time. It is conducted in various ways, one of which is through automatically or manually activated survival beacons. Additionally, various equipment is used for direct suspected area search from the air and ground. In cases when survival beacon fails to work properly, or when it is separated and dislocated from the majority of accident remainings, an alternative way for localisation and faster search mission performance is permanently actual task. This article deals with research of the possibility of synthetic aperture (SA) radar based search mission. It provides possible improvements in the existing search procedures steps. The SA radar search mission is completely independent of survival beacon, the intensity of SA radar used range of microwaves is very little influenced by atmospheric conditions, and it performs day and night in all weather conditions. Therefore, the process of searching can be performed much faster and SAR mission made more efficient.
