Ground-source heat pump with a 100 m deep borehole heat exchanger – start up and first results
Within the research project "Exploiting the ground as a renewable heat source", a test ground-source heat pump system was installed near the laboratory building of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture (FAMENA), University of Zagreb. A 100 m deep borehole heat exchanger was made. A commercial polyethylene PE 100 double U-pipe was installed in the borehole with 152 mm in the outer diameter, and grouted with the thermally enhanced cement. Thermocouple temperature sensors were embedded in the borehole wall using original technology. The sensors were located at ten depth levels, ranging from 1, 5 m to 100 m. After the thermal stabilisation, the temperature at the depth of 50 m was 13, 5 °C, and at the depth of 100 m it was 15, 2 °C. Running of the system has started with the heating mode. The system will be in operation till the end of the heating season, and after that it will be tested in the cooling mode.
