A novel approach to wind-tunnel simulation of wind characteristics in urban environment

A new type of vortex generator has been developed to enable a more precise simulation of urban wind characteristics in lower atmosphere (part-depth ABL simulation). Experimental results indicate the truncated vortex generators developed for this study can be successfully employed in urban ABL part-depth simulations, as they compare well with commonly applied theoretical models, previous wind-tunnel tests and wind specifications for urban type terrain given in international ESDU 74031 (1974) standard.
