Orthognathic Treatment of a Class III malocclusion – A Case Report
AIM: Treatment planning and treatment evaluation of Class III malocclusion is always a challenge for an interdisciplinary approach. This study reports a case treated with orthognathic surgery. SUBJECT AND METHOD: A 20 year old female with a skeletal Class III malocclusion. The examination findings were: ANB angle, -3 degrees ; overbite, -2 mm, overjet -2 mm ; and a distance between the maxillary and mandibular midlines, 7 mm. Orthodontic treatment with fixed orthodontic appliances corrected compensating relationship between the dentoalveolar and bone structures, after that surgical correction included a bimaxillary osteotomy. To provide good and stable intercuspidation settling were made. RESULT: Combined orthodontic and surgical treatment obtained a Class I occlusion with an aesthetical pleasing results.
