DISTINGUISHING STUDENTS’ MOTOR ABILITIES ACCORDING TO SCHOLASTIC STANDING

The aim of this paper was to analyze the differences between various basic motor abilities of the students according to their scholastic standing. The analysis was performed the sample of 60 students of the Kinesiology Department of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Education University of Split, aged between 18 and 19. Motor abilities have been analyzed by means of 13 variables used for the evaluation of absolute, speed, explosive and repetitive strength, as well as the evaluation of aerobic endurance and agility. The entities were divided into two qualitative groups on the basis of the sum of their marks in Croatian, English and Math in the final year of high school. No statistically significant differences in basic motor abilities between students with above average scholastic knowledge and those with the below average knowledge have been found by the analysis of variance, which was probably due to the lower variability of predictable variables and criterion variable. Only the connection between scholastic standing and the variables for evaluating aerobic endurance and static and repetitive strength of a trunk has been established by non-parametric median test. The results of this survey showed that the differences in scholastic standing cannot be entirely explained only by particular motor abilities, since scholastic standing depends also to a great extent on other anthropological features.
