Electromagnetic Field Coupling to Nerve Fiber Using the Passive Cable Model

In this paper, a nerve fiber stimulation by electromagnetic induction is presented by using two nerve fiber models: a passive cable model and a Hodgkin-Huxley model. A nonlinear Hodgkin-Huxley cable model describes the response of the nerve fiber to induced electric field parallel to the fiber. Analytical solution of the cable equation for the normal incidence plane wave excitation is obtained and some illustrative results are presented. Basic ideas for the future research are also explained.
