Impact of Faults Diagnosis on Safety and Reliability of Marine Engine Systems
Marine engine systems are very complex. During their exploitation a series of factors exists that endangered reliability and long lasting operation. Detection and isolation of faults on time is of extreme importance for realization of safe operation and necessary level of functionality. This paper provides an overview and contribution to security and reliability of marine engine systems. Research has been made on Kongsberg Norcontrol type 2000 simulator by simulating corresponding faults in fuel system of a two stroke marine diesel engine MAN B&W 5L90MC. Symptoms, events and behavior of the variables in time are processes in detail using modern diagnostic methods. The obtained results indicate behavior of the engine in terms of damage and some degradation of performance which is important for the timely prevention of the occurrence of a fault, thereby contributing to the reliability of marine engine systems.
