Eco-friendly compounds as corrosion inhibitors for steel in acidic solutions

A highly cross-linked network of ferric-tannate moieties fixed either on steel surface or in the rust layer assures efficient protection of the metal exposed to tannin solutions. The results show that the inhibitor efficiency of mimosa tannin in sulfuric acid solutions (pH 1 to 3) strongly depends upon the of presence other inorganic or organic ionic or molecular species in the electrolyte. Specially, the influence of formaldehyde as polymerization inducing agent has been investigated.
