Regioselective transformations of acylated saccharides catalyzed by esterases isolated from guinea pig serum
Mammalian sera are rich sources of esterase activities with specificity for carbohydrate esters. Individual enzyme fractions catalyzing the hydrolyses of various acylated monosaccharides were isolated from guinea pig serum. In this work we describe the separation of these esterase fractions by using radiolabelled substrates. Separated enzyme fractions were then applied in regioselective deacylations of acylated monosaccharides. Acyls used were acetyls and pivaloyls. Mannose, xylose, glucose and galactose were used as sugar parts. The degree of regioselectivity and the direction of hydrolysis depend on the sugar structure, enzyme source, and the particular characteristics of each isolated fraction. It was observed that the direction of hydrolysis catalyzed by esterases isolated from guinea pig differs from those observed in reactions catalyzed by esterases from other mammalian sera
