DSC and SEM analysis of the Cu-Al-Ni shape memory alloys
Shape memory alloys are usable in numerous areas. The effect of the shape memory alloys is basically a recollection on a former deformation of the applied form of the material. In the physical sense, it is a byproduct of the martensite phase transformation in the structure of the homogenous matter. It is known that fast solidifying alloys can be acquired in numerous ways. One of the ways is getting thin ribbons on a melt spinner. The melted melt Cu-Al-Ni alloy was injected through a rectangular nozzle onto a cold surface of the melt spinner. Because of very fast heat drainage, test ribbons with the width 4-6 mm and thickness 40-50 m are acquired from the mentioned alloy test ribbons. Also remelted alloy is continuous casted by means of vertical device for casting in the cylindic rods with diameter of 16 mm at the different casting speed In this work, results of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and microstructural analysis of the Cu-Al-Ni shape memory alloy (SMA) were presented. Phase transformation temperatures (As, Af, Ms and Mf) are determined by DSC methods. Martensite phase was observed by SEM analysis.
