Relationship between managers’ self-evaluation of decision making and locus of control

This article will primarily focus on the intuitive and rational management decision-making and on individual and group decision-making. The main aim of the conducted research is to examine the decision-making approach at different managerial levels. The approach to decision-making was analyzed in the context of managers' beliefs that their decisions and goals had been achieved mostly as a result of their personal efforts (internal locus of control) or external factors which they could not have had any impact on, i.e. economic and social conditions, impact of other employees in their organization, managers, etc. (external locus of control). The study was conducted among managers at different management levels (we define them as low, medium and top-level managers), who are also postgraduate students of Business Systems Management. The results show interdependence among the variables of intuitive and rational decision-making and locus of control. They can be applied in creating course curricula intended for improving communication and decision-making techniques of managers, as part of their life-long learning. In the continuation of the research the connection between the stated variables and personality traits will be examined.
