Molecular interactions in hematopoietic development
T lymphocytes like all blood cells develop from a multipotent hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) that develop and migrate from the bone marrow, differentiate in the thymus into immunocompetent cells which finally seed the peripheral lymphatic organs. Because it is extremely important to produce immunocompetent lymphocytes the process of their maturation and development is strictly regulated and is succumb to very strict check points at several stages of differentiation. We discuss molecular interactions and gene regulation at these check points.
Hematopoietic stem cells; lymphocytes; transcription factors
