Modelling of non-stationary hydrodynamics in microreactors
To optimize the process parameters for reaction taking place in a microreactor it is necessary to understand the hydrodynamic conditions in microchannels. Working with two immiscible liquids, parallel or slug flow can be formed. Flow pattern formation depends on linear velocity, ratio of phases, fluid proprieties, the channel geometry and construction material of a microreactor. In the both flow patterns mass transfer takes place at the interfacial area ; larger interfacial area and intensity of internal circulation insures effective mass transfer. In this work liquid-liquid slug flow was experimentally analyzed in two types of microreactors ; volumes and number of slugs at different flow rate were measured. Also, short overview on modeling of slug flow is given.
