Experience in architectural design, construction and utilization of passive houses and a start of PASS-NET IEE project in Croatia

Countries with a great amount of solar radiation as Croatia have lower energy consumption for heating but more complex requirements for cooling season. Low energy houses that are designed consciously as high efficient passive solar architecture with estimated energy consumption of 40 kWh/(m2a) in south climates are very close to passive houses reaching easily 20 kWh/(m2a) in peaks of high solar radiation. Passive houses under definition of 15 kWh/(m2a) with the same amount of solar radiation are very close to “0” (zero) energy consumption. In this paper results of energy consumption in passive solar houses from ´80 and ´90- ties are used as comparison with the first measurement of energy consumption in the first passive house M4 that was finished in 2005. The paper presents new projects and realizations of family passive houses B2, CV1, D1, J3, K1, K2, L2, M5, N1 and one for public use designed by the author of this paper in the last three years. Education in a field of energy efficiency can not go round passive house. Very important news will be mention and comment about new publications on passive house. In Slovenia was in 2007 published the first book titled Passive house with introduction of dr. Wolfgang Feist and edition in Croatian language is already prepared for print in this year. This paper points up the importance of continuous education and training in the field of passive house. As the expectation of new projects for passive house promotion was optimistically announced in my paper for the 11th international conference that was held in Bregenz, PASS-NET project in the frame of Intelligent Energy Europe programme got the green light and started in ten countries including Croatia. The big new door is opened for passive house promotion.
