Track stability using ballast bonding method

Ensuring the high speed rail traffic, increasing railway track capacities, providing comfortable and safe ride as well as high reliability and availability are the most common demands put on the railway tracks nowadays. Consequences of the mentioned are highly increased loads, not only on the superstructure, but also on the ballast bed. Particularly sensitive are transitional areas between ballast track and ballast less track, turnout areas, glued insulated joint and track weld areas. Great attention should be entitled to lateral stability of the track as well in order to avoid track displacement. Mentioned problems demand from railway companies more frequent track maintenance works, particularly ballast bed maintenance. In order to avoid frequent maintenance works and to reduce costs, some railway companies started implementing ballast bonding to ensure stability of ballast bed. The paper elaborates advantages of the mentioned technology ; experiences from several European railway companies as well as the application in Croatia during the reconstruction of a certain level crossing in Zagreb are being described.
