Pain Prevalence Among Competititve International Dancers
Male S&L dancers experience pain in the hips and calves to a greater extent than do female dancers. Female S&L dancers primarily experience pain in the toe region (44.9% of the female dancers). Back pain affects both female and male S&L dancers. Male dancers primarily reported upper back pain, whereas female dancers reported both upper back and low back pain. Future research should be focused on identification of injury risk factors and specific preventive measures that may reduce stresses that are imposed by the technical demands of S&L sport dance.
