The influence of nitrogen on stress corrosion cracking on austenitic stainless steel
There is a general agreement that nitrogen is a strong austenite stabilizer in austenitic stainless steels (ASS), with an additional advantage of the improvement in the mechanical properties ; nitrogen in steel can improve fatigue life, strength at low and elevated temperatures, cold work hardening, wear resistance. The aim of the present work was to investigate the influence of nitrogen on stress corrosion cracking on austenitic stainless steel containing 0.25% of nitrogen in 0.5 M H2SO4 by using electrochemical dc and ac techniques.
