Croatia: Political Evolution and Relation with the EU

Apart of being the negotiating country for the EU membership and forerunner in the South-Eastern Europe, Croatia is a full member of the Union for Mediterranean (UfM) since 2008. Its geographical position opens possibilities for “bridging” role between Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean. Membership in the UfM is important for Croatia to affirm more strongly the Mediterranean dimension of it’s foreign policy. The paper evaluates progress in governance practice in the country and and achievements in EU relations in 2009.
