Teachers work climate in Croatia s elementary schools
In the project "The Relationship between School Climate and School Effectiveness" special attention is given to the diagnosis of teachers work climate in compulsory, 8- year elementary schools. The objective is to find out how teachers percive their work climate. The sample consists of 71 elementary schools in the region of Zagreb, which is the capital of Croatia. Ten teachers were selected from each school according to the length of their teaching experience (more than one year). In addition, teachers were selected in terms of the level they teach(primary grade- school and upper primary subject teachers), and divided by subject into humanities, sciences and arts. The instrument used for assessing school climate is the adapted Work Environment Scale (WES) - Form R (Insel and Moos,1981.). The WES consists of ten scales, with three measuring Personal Growth Dimensions, three measuring Relationship Dimensions and four Scales measuring System Maintenance and Change Dimensions. The results show that schools significantly differ in perception of school climate.
