Electrochemical behaviour of tin in citrate buffer solutions
The electrochemical behaviour of tin in 0.05 M citrate buffer solutions in the pH range 3-6 was investigated using cyclic voltammetry, photopolarization and impedance measurements. On the basis of in situ measurements it was concluded that the reaction mechanism of electrochemical oxidation of tin at pH 3 and 4 is controlled by complexing of Sn2+ ions by citric anions. The results obtained at pH 5 and 6 are disscused in terms of the formation of stable oxide phase in the relatively thick anodic film on tin surface. The present work was undertaken to better understanding the corrosion mechanism in Sn/food systems.
