System Dynamics Computer Modelling and Simulation in Maritime Education and Training
The system dynamics simulation modelling methodology is one of the most suitable and effective ways of dynamic modelling of complex non-linear, natural, technical and organisation systems. Following a number of computer-laboratory researches, the system dynamic simulation models were manufactured out from 1993 to 1999, as under-graduate theses at the Polytechnic of Dubrovnik Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dubrovnik, Croatia. The aims of this paper are: 1.) to show the efficency of this modelling approach, 2.) to give marine students the better point of wiev or tool for the non-linear dynamics models simulation, as it would improve marine education processes and 3.) to show one example for supporting new education quality, exactly as it is in the case of the zone air reheater in the marine air conditioning system as an object of regulation. The system dynamics mental-verbal, structural, mathematical and computer simulation models are a continuous simulation models, because they are presented by the set of non-linear differential equations (level equations) and discrete simulation models as well, because they are presented by the set of linear difference equations and it was solved in the discrete time period. By showing a characteristic theme of an educational unit, which is presented with the aid of a computerized simulation based on a mathematical model, a statement is illustrated claiming that utilization of computers can shorten the time needed for presenting specialized knowledge. At the same time, the quality and the clarity of the lecture is improved. A positive and a favourable boost to the student s creative capabilities should be added.
