Tolerance of new alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) genotypes to acid soil
Aim of this study was testing new alfalfa genotypes to growing on two soils as follows: pseudogley (pH in KCl = 4.30) and eutric cambisol (pH in KCl = 6.49). These soils are situated in eastern Croatia. The trials were conducted for two growing seasons. The second cutting was used for determination yield of dry matter and its N, P and K status. Yield (2-y means) on acid soil (1.71 t ha-1) was 34% lower than on neutral soil (2.75 t ha-1). differences of N, P and K concentrations (% on dry matter basis) among the genotypes were in range from 3.32 to 3.51 (N), from 0.36 to 0.41 (P) and from 2.21 to 2.50 (K), while depending on the soil these values were as follows: 3.07 and 3.72% N, 0.36 and 0.42% P, 2.26 and 2.39% K, for acid and neutral soil, respectively. In general, low connection was found between yield and nutritional status of alfalfa.
