Epigraphy as a Source for the Topography of Roman Liburnia
The paper deals with charting of the ancient epigraphic monuments. Its main goal is to investigate the methods and patterns which could produce the best scholarly results. The author concludes that, although it would be best to chart all available data at once (if looking for the most complete picture of human settlement activities of the past), such an ideal is almost impossible to achieve, so cartographers always have to choose just enough quantity of elements to be included at the map in order to create clear and easily comprehensible illustration of the subject in question, thus necessarily excluding certain elements from the charting itself, or else the map would become completely useless being too crowded with pieces of information. Using the territory and inscriptions of the ancient Liburnia, the author discussed several maps in different scales pointing out their good and bad sides.
