The shell characteristics of land snail Eobania vermiculata (Müller, 1774) from Croatia
The land snail genus Eobania P. Hesse, 1913 in Croatia consists of four taxons: Eobania vermiculata figarole (Rensch, 1928), Eobania vermiculata kamenensis Berberović, 1963, Eobania vermiculata pelagosana (Westerlund, 1894) i Eobania vermiculata vermiculata (O.F. Müller, 1774). The mean shell largest diameters (D) of the 13 samples ranged from 19, 99 mm (sample from island of Sušac) to 31, 78 mm (Šibenik, seaside) and the mean shell height (H) from 17, 31 mm (Sušac) to 25, 66 mm (Island of Šolta). The shell morphology confirms that all islands populations are smaller with examples of nanism on outside islands Palagruža and Sušac. The mean size of the largest population was approximately 1, 5 x larger than the mean size of the smallest population. The low variance between the size variation within populations and variation in shell shape were not expected.
