Numerical simulation models of heat pumps for HVAC applications
Utilization of heat pumps is rapidly increasing due to European dedication to increasing the share of renewable energy in final energy consumption. Heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems of buildings are responsible for about 40 % of final energy consumption. Heat pumps can help to increase the share of renewable energy in final energy consumption and to decrease emission of carbon dioxide. As the performance of the heat pump varies with heat source and heat sink temperatures as well as flow capacities of heat source and sink, numerical simulation models are suitable for system design as well as for analysis of dynamic behavior and calculation of energy consumption. Applications of empirical, theoretical and fundamental principle based models are discussed in the paper. Features of various types of steady-state and transient heat pump models are analyzed, based on examples.
