How was a Pirapitinga, Piaractus brachypomus (Teleostei: Serrassalmidae) introduced in the Croatian freshwater?
In the last week of July 2010 accidentally were caught two adult individuals of pirapitinga Piaractus brachypomus (Cuvier 1818) in the Croatian waters. The first individual was caught in the Drava River, 12 kilometres upstream of the City of Osijek. The second individual was caught in the Danube River, near the confluence of the Drava and Danube Rivers. Those records are first for the Croatian open waters, and the second such report in central Europe. It is possible explanation of those records by releasing the specimens by aquarists into the rivers.
