Mechanical and magnetic properties of Cu55Hf45-xTix metallic glasses
A recent study of Cu55Hf45-xTix metallic glasses with 0≤x≤45 revealed the formation of bulk metallic glasses (BMG) for 15≤x≤30. In the same composition range the ratio of the glass transition temperature Tg, and the liquidus temperature Tl, showed a shallow maximum, consistent with the highest glass forming ability (GFA). Here, we present the results for some mechanical properties (Young's modulus and microhardness) and magnetic properties (magnetic susceptibility) of these alloys and compare their variation with x with those for Tg and the crystallization temperature Tx. All measured properties show monotonic variations with x with no particular features in the composition range for BMG formation, hence do not indicate BMG compositions. The applicability of different criteria for assessing GFA to studied alloy system is briefly discussed.
