Common Mode Choke Modelling
This report summarizes the results of detailed modeling and analysis of common mode chokes used in power converters which includes the following: 1. Analytical model for toroidal single phase and three phase common mode chokes representing open mode impedance of a choke in the frequency range from 150 kHz to 30MHz. This includes material properties, parasitic capacitances, leakage inductance, winding structure (span, inter‐coil separation, number of turns, multiple layers of turns etc.). The model is implemented in Matlab ; 2. Verification of analytical model using finite element analysis (FEA). For two chosen test cases the physical structure of the choke has been represented in Infolytica ElecNet and MagNet FE software and the impedance of the choke has been compared to the analytical results ; 3. A script that uses pre‐defined choke parameters (core dimensions, turns, spacing etc.) and automatically generates a CAD file that can be incorporated into FE software.
