The environment is not only a material but a spiritual reality also. The environment is not only air, water and soil surrounding us, it is also the relationships we establish to the other existent beings present in the material and spiritual space. Accordingly, the environmental pollution is not constituted just of emission of SO2 or CO2 to the atmosphere ; gluttony, greed, animosity and viciousness are equally dangerous, if not even more damaging to the environment than acid rain. Benevolence and closeness are as necessary for pleasant and sensible living as are pure water and clean air.
