Mass Spectrometric Study of Quinoline-based Aminophosphonates and Their Palladium(II) Complexes
Phosphonic acid esters of heterocyclic systems have attracted a continuing interest due to their wide range of biological and toxicological properties with numerous applications in the agrochemical and pharmacological fields. Another interesting aspect regarding this kind of compounds arises from their ability of forming various types of transition metal complexes, which might be also of interest owing to their biological activity. The representative examples are complexes of platinum group metals that could be applied as less toxic and more selective anticancer therapeutics. For many years, our interest in this field has been directed to palladium(II) and platinum(II) complexes with quinoline- and aniline-based alkyl phosphonates and a number of synthesized complexes have shown high in vitro antitumor activity. In this report we describe the ESI mass spectrometric investigation of diethyl and dibutyl esters of [alpha-anilino-(2-quinolylmethyl)]phosphonic acid (L1 and L2) and [alpha-(3-quinolylamino)-N-benzyl]phosphonic acid (L3 and L4), and their palladium(II) chloride and bromide complexes.
