Effect of organic additives on hydration of aluminate cement
In this work the effect of organic compounds( triethanolamine, glucose and citric acid) on the setting time and compressive strength of commercial calcium aluminate cement(CAC) has been investigated. Setting time of the prepared CAC with a water to cement ratio the matching consistency was determined by standard Vicat needle test. Organic additives used had a significant influence on calcium aluminate cement hydration. Compressive and flexural strengths obtained with the addition of triethanolamine are roughly twice as than low as reference values, while the addition of glucose or citric acid effectively stops hydration reactions. Hydration products had been characterized by X-ray powder diffraction and infrared spectroscopy.
