Seasonal changes in the trophic structure of macroinvertebrates on the cobble substrate
In the modern lotic ecosystem theory river system is a continuum of physical gradients associated with spatial changes in the functional organization of benthic communities. The aim of this study was to demonstrate how the total macroinvertebrate biomass and its trophic structure correspond with seasonal discharge fluctuations. We found that the size body of macroinvertebrates and its passive drift besides the size fractions of organic detritus in substrate, influenced by discharge regime, were the factors responsible for the seasonal changes in the functional community organization of macroinvertebrates on the cobble substrate in a medium size river.
