Chemical Protective Clothing,
Textile materials and seams used to make protective clothing must be impermeable to penetration (at the physical level) and permeation. In agricultural operations, despite the recommendations of insecticide manufacturers to use appropriate protective materials, denim fabrics are often used. This paper tests the effectiveness of denim and its seams as a protective material for penetration of aggressive chemicals. Samples were tested according to the standard HRN EN ISO 6530:2005 Protective clothing- Protection against liquid chemicals-Test method for resistance of materials to penetration by liquids. This method has also been partly modified by measuring the permeability of the seams as the most sensitive areas of the textile material, and different angles of seams in the direction of fluids. The cotton fabric tested was woven in warp face (3/1) twill. Samples were stitched in the warp and weft direction and at an angle of 45°. The samples prepared in this way were tested for penetration, absorption of liquid on a seamed and on a seamless fabric. In the course of the tests the following liquids were used: water, diesel fuel D1, and soil insecticide Pyrinex 48 EC.
