Additional amino groups creation on hyaluronan films by low-temperature plasma

The application of plasma is widely used in biotechnologies, for example, biocompatible plastic surfaces, starch, chitosan and other biodegradable materials can all be treated by plasma. Here, the plasma treatment of hyaluronan (HA), which is a biopolymer with similar chemical structure that of chitosan is examined. Chitosan has monomer unit similar to hyaluronan, however, in comparison to hyaluronan, chitosan has been successfully modified with different plasmas (argon, nitrogen, ammonia, alkane vapor and oxygen plasma).
