The aim of this research is to determine the impact of increasing the quality of the competitive advantage of the sector. In its first part, the research included defining of the research sample and scientific methodology. The second part of the research refers to the determination of the place and role of competitive advantage in the business of small hotels in the context of measuring the impact of standards and quality as a unique process that represents the path to the goal - to increase the competitive advantage of small hotels in Croatia. Research has shown that although management emphasises the quality as the basic strategic goal, a 'declarative' level is present and it should be transferred to the highest possible realistic level. The average quality grade (according to category) of small hotels is higher than the Croatian average, and it is 3.75*. Using the multivariate regression analysis, the theory of a strong influence of quality on the increase of competitive advantage of small hotels in Croatia, has been proven. Facts and proposals of quality implementation measures in small hotel businesses have been presented, with the aim of increasing competitive advantage.
