Corrosion resistant steel as reinforcement in concrete
The enormous costs and safety issues associated with corrosion of steel in concrete have resulted in the development of a wide range of new technologies and materials to increase the durability of reinforced concrete structures and to decrease the costs of the repairs. Most of the methods can be generally divided into those that focus on improving concrete and those that focus on improving reinforcement performance. One of the methods that focuses on improving performance of reinforcement in concrete, is the use of certain types of stainless steel as selective or total substitution of black steel reinforcement steel. Within ARCHES project in FP7 program, specifically in working task 3.1 of WP 3 the main objective was to evaluate the possibilities of utilization of different types of corrosion resistant steel reinforcement in concrete.
