Jellyfish outbreaks in the Mediterranean Sea unveil synergies of climate and fisheries
Jellyfish outbreaks are ubiquitous across marine ecosystem. Recent reports have documented long-lasting high abundance4 and associated economic damages. Here we test three competing hypothesis to explain the long-term dynamics in the Mediterranean Sea, and show that the growing jellyfish abundances unveil synergetic effects of increasingly warmer waters and competition and predation release.
