Hydrological cycle and extreme precipitation statistics over Croatia simulated with regional climate model
The Regional Climate Model (RegCM) is used to dynamically downscale three realisations of present (1961-1990) and near-future climate (2011-2040) as defined by ECHAM5-MPIOM global climate model. For future climate the IPCC A2 emission scenario has been used. RegCM domain covers a large part of Europe and the Mediterranean basin with horizontal resolution of 35 km. For the part of the domain covering Croatia, variables related to hydrological cycle such as precipitation, evapotranspiration, snow and runoff are analysed as well as basic statistics of extreme precipitation events for present and future climate. Present climate simulations are compared with available station data. We plan to use RegCM outputs in present and future climate to force the hydrological model CHyM at 1 km resolution over Croatia and surrounding region. This will allow more detailed analysis of hydrological variables particularly river discharge over Sava river catchment.
