The Influence of Enzymatic Treatment on the Fibrillation of Tencel Fibres
Fibrillation of Tencel fibres occurs because of mechanical stress in the course of wet treatments. It is manifested as the separation of fibrils at the fibre surface, which results in unwanted changes of its surface characteristics. The impact of enzime treatment on the fibrillation of woven fabrics made of Tencel fibres was investigated. Primary effects of fibrillation were elliminated through the process of enzimatic cleaning, and secondary ones by intensive washinf. The effects obtained through enzime treatment were investigated by determining physical and mechanical properties of the fabric tested and its end-use properties. A method for assessing fibrillation was also developed. The "Shake-test" method, proposed by fibre manufacturers, was taken as a starting point in developing the method of testing and assessing fibrillation. The method was adapted in order to give quantitative assessment.
